The General Synod of the Church of England is the governing council or 'parliament' of the Church of England. General Synod has the power to, among other things, make church laws and oversee budgets. It is elected every five years and usually meets twice a year in London and York. There are three houses of General Synod: the House of Bishops, the House of Clergy and the House of Laity. On the right is a short video explaining the elections for General Synod this year.
